Testimonial: Ben Goheen Uses SharkBite and HoldRite for Repipe and Renovation

Watch Why This Plumber Uses SharkBite and HoldRite for Repipes and Renovations on YouTube.

Hey guys, it's Ben Goheen, the owner of The Neighborhood Plumber. We are in the North Georgia Mountains in Cleveland, Georgia. We're going to be repiping a two-bathroom house.

They've got old polybutylene in the house for their plumbing system. Back in the eighties, everybody thought polybutylene was going to be this amazing pipe and it just did not hold up to the hype. So, this customer is getting ahead of the wagon and is going to take all of this out and get it replaced with some SharkBite PEX-a pipe and expansion fittings.

Some of the stuff we're going to be doing on this house is installing some new shower valves. We’ve got some integrated HoldRite fixture boxes we're going to use. We’re also going to throw in a washing machine outlet box.

We've also got an ice maker box and we’re adding in a of couple spigots. We're going to run all PEX-a in the crawl space and strap everything.

One of the cool products we're going to be using today from HoldRite is the fixture box. These are going to get installed under all the sinks beside the toilets. They're rough-in boxes that have a built-in stop and built-in pipe. You screw it to the wall connected to your distribution system, and that's basically all you have to do. There's an orange cap built in that protects it while the wall is being finished. Upon completion, you can take that orange cap off and screw on the escutcheon.  It's all integrated in one box and makes it really quick and easy.

Shark Bite has been known for the past 25 years for their push to connect fittings and their transition fittings, but SharkBite also manufactures PEX pipe, expansion fittings, crimp fittings, valves, and an array of other plumbing accessories.

We're using PEX-a pipe today because we're in a crawl space and PEX-a pipe is super easy to work with since the tool is light. If you were crimping or having to glue, you have to carry all these accessories and by the time you're done repiping a house, crimping and cinching fittings, you're going to be sore and you're going to be worn out. With the technology and the equipment and tools that we have, we're going to be in and out of this place in a day, which is what plumbers like.
