Tibor Schuller, owner of Schuller Hydronics in the Toronto area, wanted to outfit his modern home with a hydronic heating system. To do so quickly, he used the SharkBite EvoPEX™ system, and a suite of other RWC solutions, to complete an efficient and professional installation for the comfort he desired.
Creating a Model Home for Hydronic Heating
In Canada, where the winters can be long and harsh, sometimes you want more than what standard electric heating systems can supply. Schuller decided to use his modern Ontario house as an example of the comfort that hydronic heating provides. The hydronic radiant floor heating system efficiently warms his 3,200-square-foot home from the basement, throughout the house and all the way out to the porch.
A Complete Home Solution with SharkBite and RWC brands
Because the SharkBite oxygen barrier PEX is flexible, the team could more easily handle it than rigid pipe, bending it and securing it quickly along the floor. EvoPEX fittings, meanwhile, gave them additional assurance that their connections were sound and permanent. Each fitting has a green indicator that displays when pipe is properly inserted and secure, leaving guesswork out of the equation.
The Schuller team also used several SharkBite brass push products, like the radiant heating manifold, which provided more flexibility on the job. Because these fittings can be disconnected and reused, the team knew that if something needed to be adjusted, they could easily pivot without losing valuable parts.
Whenever you have water running through pipes to heat a home, you’re going to get some vibration. To protect against the noise, Schuller Hydronics used HoldRite acoustic isolation clamps so the pipes can expand as needed without causing a disturbance.
Reducing Labor Costs with Streamlined Hydronic Heating Installations
Because of EvoPEX’s push-to-connect design, the hydronic heating system was quick to install, saving the company about 40% on labor costs, according to the team. He also considers it more eco-friendly, longer lasting and easier to work with than alternative hydronic heating fittings.
Efficiency also stood out to the company’s president, Gabor Milisics.
“The speed at which we can install these systems is second to none,” Milisics said.
New plumbers can easily acquaint themselves with hydronics systems without the steep learning curve for techniques such as soldering. They don’t have to deal with time-consuming methods that use special tools either.
And at the end of the day, the SharkBite EvoPEX system is easier on installers.
“If your installers aren’t getting beaten up on the job site, they’re going to usually do a better job for you,” Schuller said.
