Take a look inside a SharkBite push-to-connect fitting to see what makes this the superior push-fit technology.

What’s Inside a SharkBite Fitting?

The following are the main components of our push fittings, as shown in the video.

  • Release collar: Recesses to prevent an accidental release.
  • Grab ring: Made of angled 316 stainless steel that allows pipe to push through, but not pull out.
  • O-ring and protector: Chloramine-resistant EPDM o-ring that compresses between the pipe and the wall of the fitting before it reaches the tube stop.
  • Tube stop: A secure connection is made once the pipe reaches the tube stop.
  • PEX stiffener: Helps keep the o-ring sealed tightly on the outside of the tube for PEX, PE-RT or SDR-9 HDPE tubing. This is not required nor included in SharkBite Max fittings.
  • Body: Made of lead-free dezincification brass, which is corrosion-resistant and compliant with ASSE 1061, NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372.

How to Install a SharkBite Fitting

  1. Cut the pipe squarely.
  2. Deburr and mark the proper insertion depth. Using the deburr & gauge tool, deburr the pipe and ensure it is smooth and free of debris. Then, mark the insertion depth.
