An excess flow valve is a leak detection device that restricts or shuts off the flow of gas if a leak occurs in the gas line. To install, turn the nozzle on your gas shut-off valve to the off position, which is perpendicular to the wall. Then, wrap Teflon tape clockwise onto the EFV and thread onto the shut-off valve and use your wrench to tighten the connection.
Next, thread the connector line onto the EFV and snug it with a wrench. To connect the other end of the line to the range, wrap the ½ in. fitting in Teflon tape, thread onto the range and tighten with a wrench. Then, thread the other end of the line onto the fitting and tighten with a wrench.
Now that everything is connected, it’s time to test the system. Apply the leak detection solution to all connection points, turn on the gas, and inspect for bubbles. If no bubbles appear, your connections are secure.
After testing the system, plug in your range, set it in place, and use a level to check that it is balanced. If it is not level, use a wrench to adjust the legs accordingly.
