How To: Install Washing Machine Outlet Boxes

Watch How to Install SharkBite Washing Machine Outlet Box on YouTube.

SharkBite offers push-to-connect outlet boxes for quick quarter-turn shut-offs to the water supply for washing machines. These outlet boxes are available with or without water hammer arrestors and are compatible with copper, CPVC and PEX pipe to fit your application. They can also be mounted left, right or center and do not require additional support framing.

Preparing for Installation

  • Remember to install above the water height of the washer. This is typically 42 in. from the floor to the top of the outlet box.
  • If you’re replacing an existing outlet box, shut off the water supply and drain the water lines.

How to Install Your Washing Machine Outlet Box

  • Insert the mounting brackets into the slots on the sides of the box.
  • Bring the box flush with or slightly below the finished wall surface and attach the mounting brackets to the studs with screws or nails.
  • Connect the water distribution lines to the SharkBite push-to-connect fittings and remove the test cap knockout.
  • Locate the desired drain opening and attach the 2 in. DWV pipe using solvent weld. Once secured, ensure there are no leaks.
  • Once the wall surface is finished, snap the face plate into place. Before turning on the water supply, make sure that the outlet box is turned to the “off” position until the appliance is connected and ready to use.
