How To: Install SharkBite Push-to-Connect Stop Valves
SharkBite Push-to-Connect Stop Valves are designed for quick installation of fixtures and appliances including faucets, toilets, refrigerators, dishwashers, ice makers and humidifiers.
Before getting started, it is important to identify the type of stub-out at your installation location because every job has specific requirements:
- Installing a toilet? One stop valve is required.
- Installing a faucet? Two stop valves are required.
- Stub-out comes out of the wall? An angle stop valve is required.
- Stub-out comes out of the floor? A straight stop valve is required.
How To Install SharkBite Push-to-Connect Stop Valves
Installing the Stop Valve
- Prepare the PEX pipe by cutting it as cleanly and squarely as possible. Be sure to leave at least 1 inch of pipe to insert the supply stop onto the stub out.
- Make sure the pipe is free of scratches and debris. Remove any sharp edges or burrs if you are handling copper pipe.
- Next, use your Deburr & Gauge Tool to measure and mark the insertion depth on your pipe stub-out. If you need help finding the right pipe insertion depth, review our insertion depth chart.
- Push the stop valve to the insertion mark on the pipe. Repeat steps 1-4 for the second valve if you are installing a faucet.
Connecting the Supply Line
SharkBite Supply Stops are available with a variety of supply connections. You can choose a braided supply line that threads onto the stop valve, a braided supply line that utilizes PEX tubing and SharkBite fixture connectors or a stop valve with an integrated supply connector.
Installing a braided supply line makes the job quick – simply thread the connector onto the fixture and stop valve. Plumbing tape is not needed for threaded connections.
When installing a supply line with PEX tubing and SharkBite connections, measure the distance between the two connectors and add 2 inches. Transfer this measurement to the PEX tubing and cut to length. Then, simply push the tubing into the stop valve and fixture connector.
Install a stop valve with an integrated supply connector to save time on the job. Simply install the stop valve and connect to the fixture.
