How To: Install SharkBite Max Fittings

Watch How to Install a SharkBite Max Push-to-Connect Fitting on YouTube.

SharkBite Max Push-to-Connect Fittings have added strength and burst pressure than the first generation Push-to-Connect Fittings and are perfect for transitioning pipe types. They are compatible with PEX, copper, CPVC, PE-RT, and HDPE pipe. Pipe cutters are the only tool required to install, and they even install in wet lines.

If you plan for underground use, be sure to have SharkBite silicone self-adhesive tape before beginning your project or burying.

How to Install SharkBite Max Push-to-Connect Fittings

  1. Shut off the water supply to the area you are working on. The safest way to do this is the main water shut-off valve for the house or building. It might be in a basement, crawl space, near a hot water heater, or even outside in a shut-off valve box. Once it's turned to the off position, relieve the line pressure by opening a nearby faucet.
  2. Cut your pipe squarely and ensure it is free of debris. If using copper, deburr the pipe using Emory Cloth and a Deburr Tool.
  3. Measure and mark the insertion depth. With the SharkBite Deburr & Gauge Tool, mark the insertion depth. You can also find the SharkBite Insertion Depth Chart here.
  4. Make the connection. Push the fitting to your mark. A slight twisting motion may help with pushing the fitting onto the pipe.

Repeat these steps for any remaining connections. Once all connections are made, turn on your water and check the connections.
