1. Identify the Pipe Material
To get started, identify the pipe material. SharkBite brass fittings are compatible with PEX, copper, CPVC, PERT and SDR-9 HDPE pipe. If you’re installing on PEX, PE-RT or SDR-9 HDPE pipe, you’ll need to use tube stiffeners, which are sold separately.
2. Cut and Deburr
To make a connection, cut the pipe as cleanly and squarely as possible. Next, wipe the pipe to clean it from debris. If you’re using copper pipe, deburr the outside of the pipe to remove any sharp sections or burrs.
3. Measure and push to connect
Using a SharkBite deburr & gauge tool, measure and mark the pipe to the correct insertion depth. Now, push the fitting onto the pipe to the mark you just made. Once all connections are complete, turn on the water to test the system.
Removing SharkBite Large Diameter Fittings
Sometimes you may need to remove SharkBite fittings to make changes or alterations to plumbing. First, make sure you’re using a correctly sized disconnect clip. Place the clip on the pipe and align the lugs on the fitting. Push the clip in and rotate it counterclockwise until the clip is locked into place. Remove the pipe from the fitting and twist the clip again to remove it from the fitting.
