How To: Install a New Washing Machine
Learn the best methods for installing a new washing machine with expert tips from Rashun Williams, a professional installer with 27 years of experience. He’ll be using products from SharkBite’s sister brand, Eastman, for a quick, easy and reliable installation.
Everything you’ll need for the install:
- CPVC primer and adhesive
- Hole saw drill
- Adjustable wrench
- Eastman Washing Machine Drain Pan
- Eastman Stainless Steel Braided Washing Machine Hose
Drain Pan Installation
Start by connecting your Eastman Washing Machine Drain Pan to the CPVC pipe that is in your wall where the washing machine will go. To do this, score and then apply CPVC primer and adhesive to the pipe. Scoring it with a knife will help the primer and adhesive seal better onto the pipe. Repeat this process with the CPVC nut and connect it to the pipe.
Then, check whether you have below-floor or midfloor/backwall drainage. This will determine where to make cuts into the drain pan with your hole saw drill. For below-floor drainage, you’ll need to drill holes on the inside of the pan directly above the drainage point. Midfloor drainage, drill the holes on the side of the pan where it meets the CPVC pipe. After drilling the hole and lining it up with the pipe, add your washer and thread it onto the pipe. Then use an adjustable wrench to secure the connection.
Washing Machine Installation
Once your drain pan is in place, connect your Eastman Stainless Steel Braided Washing Machine Hose to the back of the washing machine. Make sure to connect the red hose to the hot side and the blue hose to the cold side and tighten the connection with an adjustable wrench. Then, connect the other end of the hoses to the appliance box connection points, with the hot side on the left. Make sure to secure the connection with an adjustable wrench.
Then, place the washing machine inside the drain pan and connect the drain hose to the appliance box and secure it in place with a zip tie between the hot and cold water lines.
Note: If your washing machine does not come with a drain hose, Eastman offers a universal drain hose.
Check with a level that the washing machine is balanced and adjust the length of the legs as necessary. Finish by turning the water on at the appliance box.
