How To: Install a New Dryer
Learn the best tried-and-tested methods for installing an electric dryer with Rashun Williams, a professional installer with 27 years of experience. He’ll be using products from SharkBite’s sister brand, Eastman, for a quick, easy and reliable installation.
Everything you’ll need for the install:
- Phillips head bit or screwdriver
- Power drill
- Level and wrench
- Eastman ArmorFlex Semi-Rigid Aluminum Dryer Duct
- Eastman 4-Prong 30 Amp Dryer Cord
- Gas Dryer Install Kit (if using a gas dryer)
Dryer Cord Installation
To start, remove the access panel on the back of your new dryer with a power drill. Then, unscrew the ground screw first before unscrewing the other three legs of the wire. Next, install your Eastman 4-Prong 30 Amp Dryer Cord by screwing the green wire into the ground terminal. Then, screw the red wire to the red terminal, the black wire to the black terminal, and the two white wires to the white terminal.
Pro Tip: When screwing in the wires, reverse the drill and back the screw out to ensure it is aligned with the threads before screwing it in.
Now, reattach the access panel to your dryer and screw in the restraint clamp. To do this, align both camps to the cord and screw it in place on both sides. This will ensure that the cord stays screwed in and locked in place, which reduces potential damage to the unit.
Dryer Duct Installation
At the bottom of your dryer, slide the Eastman ArmorFlex Semi-Rigid Aluminum Dryer Duct over the vent and set it in place by screwing the clamp around the base. Then, create an s-curve with the duct so it aligns with the wall vent. Loosely tighten a clamp around the wall connection, adjust the placement of the duct as necessary, and then fully tighten the clamp using your screwdriver.
Final Steps
Now you can plug in your dryer and carefully slide it into position against the wall. Note that if you are installing a gas dryer, use the Eastman Gas Dryer Install Kit at this point to complete the installation. Then, use a level to check that your dryer is balanced. If it is not, adjust the legs with a wrench until it no longer wobbles.
