How To: Install Sweat Supply Stop

Watch How to Install SharkBite Sweat Supply Stop on YouTube.

This quarter-turn full-port brass ball valve uses high-quality brass for a corrosion-resistant solution. Learn how to install a sweat supply stop valve on a 1/2 in. copper stub out.

Prepare for Installation

  • Locate your stub-outs. They will either be on the wall or the floor.
  • Choose the correct stop valve. Use an angle stop valve for wall applications and a straight stop valve for floor applications.
  • Check to see if you will need one or two stop valves.

How to Install a SharkBite Sweat Supply Stop

  1. Shut off the water supply by using the main water shut-off to the structure. Open a nearby faucet to continue to relieve pressure and drain the supply line.
  2. If necessary, disconnect any remaining supply lines and remove old stop valves.
  3. Clean the copper stub-out and the inside of the stop valve with an emery cloth or a wire brush.
  4. Coat the inside of the valve and stub-out with flux.
  5. Push the valve onto the copper pipe and align with the fixture.
  6. Hold the tail of the solder spool near the joint. Using a torch, heat the joint until the solder liquifies and feed solder fully around the edges of the valve.
  7. Wipe the connection with a damp cloth.
  8. Install your faucet or toilet connector from the stop valve to your fixture.
  9. Hand-tighten the nut until snug, then tighten 1/4 in. turn using a wrench. Be careful not to overtighten.
  10. Turn the stop valve to the open position followed by the main water supply.
  11. Check to see that there are no leaks or loose connections.
