How RWC Contributes to a Cleaner World

Image

RWC’s Americas manufacturing and distribution facilities are committed to protecting the environment. From cardboard and PEX scrap, to wood pallets and plastic, RWC keeps tons of waste from ending up in a landfill, and we take pride in our recycling initiatives.

We’re really focusing on environmental sustainability in our facilities. It’s important that we take care of the earth.

Rodney Maronay, Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Maronay says eco-conscious practices make a positive impact within our organization, and beyond. “Our customers and investors appreciate that we engage on this level,” he told us. Maronay added that RWC manufacturing facilities are developing sustainability metrics to grade environmental impact and identify improvement projects to reduce RWC’s environmental footprint.

RWC environmental programs include:

  • The Zero Landfill Initiative

RWC US operations recycle about 130 tons of wood, plastic, paper and more per month. From July 2018 to April 2019, RWC Americas has recycled over 2.1 million pounds of material. We plan to move to zero landfill exposure within the next few years.

  • Waste Water Reduction Initiative

The Cullman facility is working on two projects to reduce water consumption. One project involves developing a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water consumption during PEX manufacturing, onsite processing and reclamation of process water from SharkBite manufacturing. Our LaVergne, Tennessee facility is developing a closed-loop system to be used during quality verification of TestRite DWV Inline Testing Systems.

  • Eco-Friendly Lighting

RWC US operations are transitioning from High Intensity Discharge (HID) and fluorescent lighting to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting, and adding more efficient air compressors. LED lights are known for their longer lifespan compared to HID. LED lighting is also known for being more environmentally friendly - up to 80% more efficient than traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting. Because LED uses less energy, this reduces the strain on power plants and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Partnerships & Social Responsibility

RWC partners with local organizations to further our recycling planning and efforts. In Cullman, JCR Recycling provides a full range of services to help sustain our initiatives, including paper and plastics recycling, industrial services and more. Our LaVergne facility partners with WM Tennessee, an organization that works continuously to increase recycling practices and improve the quality of life in their communities.
