Information

The SharkBite Silicone wrap is a self-adhesive tape that protects brass fittings from contaminants that can be found in ground conditions. Underground burials of SharkBite fittings require that the fitting be wrapped in an impermeable material in order for a warrantied connection. This wrap stretches up to 300% for easy use and creates a watertight seal by bonding within minutes. It has a working temperature of -65°F to more than 500°F. The wrap comes in 10-foot-long rolls.

This is nice sealing wrap, it is fairly easy to use and where it touches itself it turns into one solid piece after a few hours. The only things it didn't like about it is that the backing film is a little brittle especially when cold and tends to break rather than peel off, and it does not stick to whatever you are putting it on so you have to make sure that you have it stretched tight enough to make sure that no moisture can get between the wrap and what ever you are putting it on. Other than that not much to dislike about it. Obviously I can not comment on it's durability over a long period of time underground. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This tape is for a very specific purpose: protecting buried copper/brass connections This tape adheres to itself very quickly and very strongly. It does not adhere to PVC pipe. It is not intended for patching leaks in pipe. It is for protecting buried copper or brass connectors, perhaps against corrosion?. It stretches enough to conform to the shape of the pipe and connectors, but because it adheres to itself but not to the pipe it is not satisfactory for patching leaks. A professional plumber would know that. The average homeowner might not. I didn't and since I did not use it for its designed purpose, I can only evaluate it based on the fact that it does indeed adhere to itself very quickly and strongly, just as the manufacturer describes. This Shark Bite Plumbing Solutions non-adhesive multi-purpose silicone wrap is of course another layer of protective component to ensure brass fittings buried to a certain depth will remain fully sealed and avoid leakage. Easy instructions for application. Product specs says resists UV, oil, salt, and corrosive chemicals, insulates 8,000 volts and makes an air tight and water tight seal. Applied it to a fitting in our sprinkler system that we installed and it seems to work as indicated. No leaks initially but then again it's underground so time will tell. It was designed to wrap brass fittings when buried underground. I used it for a different purpose. I've had a constant drip from one of my old soldered bass connections to my hot water heater. Follow directions on package. I wrapped the connection with the wrap and overlapped 3/4" on both sides. The silicone wrap adhered to itself and after 2 hours had turned hard as cement. The leak had finally be fixed a much easier way than removing the connection and resoldering. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The non-adhesive refers to the fact that there are no glues on this wrap and it is not like tape. It is silicone and as you wrap a pipe or tube with it and stretch it during wrapping it adheres to itself. Quite well in fact. The wrap is water proof and fairly long lasting. I recommend this product for hard to seal areas, troublesome connections, and overall protection. Good stuff. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Seems like it has some strength, but I don't think it will take much pressure like if it was plugging a hole in a pressured pipe or hose. The wrap is a wrap. The instruction says to use it as protection against dirt for underground pipe. It would do a good job at that. The wrap is self sealing as applied around a pipe. Seems to be like VERY thick saran wrap. I'm sure it could also be used to bundle wires and keep the rats nest of wire behind the stereo, tidy. I used it for this [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The tape I received is an underground wrap that's supposed to protect brass fittings when buried. You install it by cutting the tape to the length you want, then wrapping the tape around the fitting, overlapping it. I wanted this tape to seal a hole in my garden hose. The specifications state that it "Temporarily seals hose leaks," and also will "...bond to itself within minutes and...cement to itself within a few hours." It's still holding now and I will see how long the seal lasts. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I needed this product because it is becoming easier to identify the pipes that are still intact than it is to identify the ones that are continuously springing leaks. So, I was thrilled to find this Shark Bite Plumbing Non-Adhesive Multi-Purpose Wrap. This wrap adheres to itself even under ground, so I am sure that it is more than capable to adhere to my sad, 55 year plumbing. I am very happy with this product and I do recommend. Can you bury Evopex connections, and would they need to be wrapped?

Asked by: Pd145
Hello, SharkBite EvoPEX fittings may be buried. Any EvoPEX fittings that have brass bodies (such as our male/female connectors) must be wrapped with an impervious barrier between the fitting and the surrounding soil. A self-fusing, formaldehyde and chloride-free, fully cured silicone tape with a minimum thickness of 0.020" should be used for this purpose (please see link below). EvoPEX fittings with a full polymer body (no brass) should not be wrapped. A link to our installation guide is below. http://www.sharkbite.com/product/sharkbite-silicone-wrap/ http://www.sharkbite.com/sharkbite/wp-content/uploads/SharkBite-EvoPEX-Installation-Guide-2016.pdf Thank you

When silicone tape wrapping a connection for underground , do components need to be totally dry ?

Asked by: RH747474
Good morning, They shouldn't need to be totally dry, but if you use a small towel to remove debris or to dry it, it will help prevent issues with the fitting in the future. The cleaner/dryer the connection prior to wrap, the better the seal.
