Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product and Easy Install There are other ways to hook up an ice maker, but this box is very easy to install and comes with an integrated water hammer arrestor. On the sides of the box there are flanges for hanging. Simply attach it to a stud and push 1/2" water line into the bottom of the box. There is a nice finish trim that snaps on the the box that gives it a clean look. I installed this in "new" construction (complete kitchen gut job) so I can't speak to retrofitting into old construction, but I imagine it would be nearly as easy. I connected a braided stainless steel ice maker hose directly to the valve - quick and easy. Ice maker and water dispenser work great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for behind the fridge ! My kitchen is undergoing a remodel, so when I saw this product, I couldn't resist. Our prior water connection to my refrigerator came from a hole in my kitchen floor. This is so very much nicer. The well-constructed recessed box makes for a much neater installation and looks great hidden behind my fridge. My husband was actually impressed with this outlet box - he hadn't been aware they were available. Installation was pretty straightforward, and the included faceplate cover makes for a very professional finishing touch. A very handy feature is the easy access water shut off. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Making Ice Nice !!!! This is a convenient inwall connection for your icemaker. Installation is simple and in total takes about an hour. Simply cut a hole in the wall for a new installation. connect your water line to the back of the wall unit. use teflon tape and flared fittings where needed .. Turn on your water to check your connection for leaks.. Then slip in attach to wall, Final step is connecting your refrigerator to the unit and you now have a neat solid connection that will make it easy to roll out your fridge shut off the water and disconnect it for whatever reason you need to get behind it.... Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice much better than a hole thru the floor. A very nice addition to the kitchen, installation was a little hard. When I cut the hole into the wall, I wanted to secure it to the 2x. I then drilled a hole through the floor inside the wall. Installed the PEX, but it was not centered to the valve. I re-drilled another hole at the center of the valve. If the PEX is offset it will not function correctly at the sharkbite connection. I then used a piece of wood to back the other side and stuck on a piece of sheetrock and used joint compound to make it look better. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prevents water hammer I have used other Shark bite products and I'm very impressed with the quality of the products, I was remodeling our kitchen and laundry room I installed the recessed ice maker and washing machine outlet box and shut off valves with the water hammer arrestor, now I was able to move my refrigerator and washing machine further back against the wall no more pipes sticking out from the wall, Was easy to install with a little plumbing experience just cut pipe and insert, Don't forget to get a removal tool in case you have to remove or reset, I used PEX piping to make all my connections, Yes I would recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice valve, box needs to mount to a stud. I installed a similar box for my washing machine (hot, cold, drain) and thought this would be nice behind the refrigerator. The supply to the valve is 1/2" CTS and connects without soldering - a definite nice feature. Outlet is standard 1/4" compression. A copper ferrule is included for use with 1/4" copper tubing. The box has 2 mounting tabs on each side for attaching to a stud. This requires using a stud finder to get a rough location, then making a small hole to find the edge of the stud, enlarging the hole to fit the box, then removing the dry wall in way of two of the mounting ears. Once the box is mounted, the trim ring covers the removed drywall so patching isn't required. Installation would have been much easier if the box used ears behind the drywall, similar to the old work plastic electrical outlet boxes. Just cut a hole, drop in the box, tighten some screws. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best way to hook up an icemaker I can never say enough good things about SharkBite products, and this kit is no exception! Everything you need comes pre-attached to the box. Simply mount it where you want, and push your 1/2" pipe into the fitting. Done! I personally have never had a leak with a SharkBite fitting. There is a small shut off valve on the side, which allows for easy installation of your icemaker tubing. The hammer arrestor is a nice feature to stop the knocking noises in your pipes. Rough opening needed is 5" x 6". Four tabs with holes on them are provided to screw to the wall. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Questions

I just want to make sure I understand...the water supply line coming into the bottom of the device needs to be 1/2” but the size of the line going from the valve to the fridge is to be 1/4”, correct?  Thanks in advance.

Asked by: Romanj
Hello - You are correct. The inlet side of the valve with the push-to-connect connection is going to be 1/2" and the outlet side of the valve with the compression connection is going to be 1/4". If you have further questions, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Team at 877-700-4242.

I have a problem with my icemaker in my refrigerator, I would like to just shut off my valve and leave it like that, would there be a problem, such as pressure built up? Or fine to leave closed?

Asked by: Reese
Hello, The valve in the SharkBite ice maker outlet box may be left in off position without issues. This valve is suitable for pressures of up to 200 psi so as long as your system's pressure does not exceed that the valve will not be damaged. Regards

Asked by: Mike 1972
Hello, We are sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with our product! The valve included with the ice maker box should come in the off or closed position and the handle should have a forward tilt. To open the valve/turn it on you will want to push the valve handle towards the back of the box. If the handle still does not move please contact our Customer Service team at 877-700-4242 so we can further assist you.
