Rated 5 out of 5 by from PEX rings or clamps? All the plumbing I've ever done has been with copper piping and sweated or compression fittings. After moving to upstate New York the vast majority of the plumbing I've encountered is PEX tubing. I love it. It's so much more forgiving and easier to work with than ridged pipe. I chose the clamps over the rings because I'm not a professional plumber and the need of having to invest in a different tool for each ring size was unappealing. These clamps come in different sizes but they all use the same crimping tool. I highly recommend these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PEX beats copper and Clamps beat crimp rings for DIYer's I chose to use ring clamps instead of crimp rings for the following reasons: The clamp ring tool fits all sizes of clamp rings so you don't need to buy multiple tools when fitting up your PEX system. Go-No Go--- when you clamp down on the rings, the tool grabs on to the clamp and you keep hauling on it until it ratchets down to the correct degree of compression. Then the tool lets go and you are done. Ooops--- If you incorrectly join a fitting, you can easily cut away the clamps with your diagonal cutters whereas the clinch rings require a special tool to cut the rings. The only down side I can see to the Ring Clamps is that they are a few cents more per clamp, but you'd have to install hundreds of fittings before the difference in cost was more than trivial. I've now installed more than 40 ring clamps and have not had a bit of trouble. Beats the heck out of sweat soldering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Do It Yourselfers, Clamps Beat Rings and PEX beats copper Having learned to sweat solder as a wee bunny, I was loathe to abandon my skill at cutting and fitting copper when I decided to remodel my house. But local water conditions, which apparently are corrosive to copper (wonder what it is doing to my stomach?) along with the astronomical rise in the price of copper pipe and fittings persuaded me to examine the alternatives. A friend in the plumbing business sang the praises of PEX and I was convinced, but he could give me no guidance on the question of whether to use clinch rings or clamps, saying only that his crews used both and that rings were cheaper. I perseverated for weeks over whether to use clamps or clinch rings. I finally decided on these clamps. Here are my reasons: One tool--- you only need one crimping tool for all sizes of the ring clamps, whereas with the clinch rings, you need a separate tool (although there are $ome combination tool$ on the market) for each size ring. On the down side, the clamps are a bit more expensive than the clinch rings, but you'd have to install hundreds of fittings before the difference in cost was more than trivial.

Very good product, easy to use, provided that you have the proper tool to cinch up the ring. It does require a dedicated tool and they are available from various manufactures as well as cheaper versions made in China. I have only used the Shark Bite version and it worked well, although it does require a little effort to close it. After you get it started, and the handles get closer together, it will be a somewhat easier. Works in a confined space where the standard large PEX clamp tools are hard to manage. Looks good when installed, and provides a nice leak free connection. Only other alternative is to use a push on Shark Bite or similar fitting, which is much more expensive, if re-usable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PEX rocks! So happy Home Depot is carrying PEX products now. They are very easy to use and fast! No worries about an improper CPVC glued pipe popping off. It's one and done with PEX. We are renovating a large mobile home park and need to replace all the old copper and poly pipe. Just be sure to buy all your fittings in bulk in every size. I am redoing my house as well using the PEX manifold system. PEX just goes in so much faster than PVC or CPVC, with less waste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I could connect 40 in a row, and pull my Boat, TIGHT fasteners!!!! DIY'er. Did >400 connections making my Homemade PEX Manifolds, and doing Room Fixtures, and outside Spigots. NO......REPEAT.......NO leakage at any spot or Fixtures since 2014. "They say - You won't have any problems if ya fastened them right". Agree, to some degree. I say it's a 80/20 in favor of a well made Product.......just saying. Ripped out all Galvy/Copper Piping. A GR8 Crimping Tool I have also. Get a good one(Tool) and it should last your Lifetime, (fasteners get all the blame when something goes wrong). >400 connections, scraped 25, learning process . Used the 1/2' ones also. Bummer bag has only 10. Initially started with 4 boxes from a Supply Web. . Some 1/4" fastened, need 2/16" closer - refer back to learning process comment. Bought 100' roll of 3/4" PEX in Order also. Happy Crimping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clamp Tight! I used these clamps in both the 1/2" and 3/4" sizes whilst re-fitting the water piping in my 1960s single floor cottage. It is important that you purchase the correct tool to crimp these clamps. All my connections held pressure on my first try and continue to do so some months later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Yes, these are the crimp type connectors. Yes, they do the job just like they should. Unfortu... Yes, these are the crimp type connectors. Yes, they do the job just like they should. Unfortunately, Home Depot charges literally 4 times the typical price for these and all pex fittings, and does not have bulk packaging for PEX in stores at all. $10 for 50 on line or $8 for 10 here. That's a hefty premium for the convenience.

Hello, is it okay if I can spin the pex pipe around a fitting after crimping with a clamp ring? The clamp tool is working properly/gauged with tool. Thanks!

Asked by: Dominic B
Good morning, Pipe should not easily spin around the fitting. As long as the tool passes the Go/No Go gauge, you know the fitting will hold.

for pex line under ground can I use a copper clamp.

Asked by: mung
Good afternoon, Anytime you install a fitting underground, you should wrap it with self-adhesive silicone tape. This prevents any chemicals that may be present in your soil from attacking the rings or fitting itself. Link to wrap: http://www.sharkbite.com/product/sharkbite-silicone-wrap/
