Learn how to install SharkBite’s general purpose, spring-loaded check valve for backflow prevention.
Welcome to SharkBite training videos. My name is Craig and in this video I will show you how to correctly install and use SharkBite check valves.
A SharkBite check valve is a general purpose, spring-loaded check valve that can be installed in seconds on copper, CTS CPVC, and PEX.
SharkBite check valves can be installed horizontally or vertically and prevents the reverse flow of water through the supply line and is typically used in domestic, hot water recirculation systems. The spring-loaded check valve prevents water in the cold water line from entering into the hot water line.
When you install the SharkBite check valve, make sure the arrow on the side of the fitting is pointing in the direction of the water flow. Correct installation is essential to ensure proper functioning of the check valve.
First, de-burr the pipe end and mark correct depth engagement using the SharkBite De-burring and Depth Gauge Tool. Then, firmly push the pipe into the fitting until it clicks and reaches the correct depth gauge mark.
Included in the SharkBite Check Valve range are 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ sizes and lead-free versions. SharkBite Check Valves can be used on copper, PEX, and CPVC.
